Where an application is submitted electronically, the certificates are issued electronically. Applications submitted in hard copy can result in hard-copy certificates. The difference in format does not change their legal effect.
This makes the electronic certificate suitable as an official corporate record, although an institution requesting documentation may have its own requirements regarding copies or certification.
Can You Obtain a Certified Copy?
Yes. A company can order a certified copy of its Certificate of Incorporation through the Companies Registry's e-Services Portal.

What If the Certificate Is Lost?
If a company cannot locate its Certificate of Incorporation, it can obtain a certified copy through the Companies Registry's document services.
Companies should also maintain their own copies of the certificate instead of relying entirely on the Registry's electronic storage period.
The Registry provides electronic search facilities through which users can search current company information and registered document records and order certified copies where available.
Certificate for Foreign Company Registration
A foreign company entering Hong Kong should distinguish between establishing a new Hong Kong company and registering an existing overseas company.
A new local company receives a Certificate of Incorporation.
An overseas company that establishes a place of business in Hong Kong and registers as a non-Hong Kong company receives a Certificate of Registration of Non-Hong Kong Company instead. Such companies generally have to register within one month after establishing a place of business in Hong Kong.
